Birthdays, Movies and Everything Else

(Originally posted on MySpace on Sunday, June 15, 2008)

Hey all. I want to thank so many of you for all the birthday greetings. Last year I got none. This year I lost count. Thanks. It made my day a lot more special. I had a great birthday, spent with good friends and lots of food, drink and fun. Besides Citrus from last week and Wilshire from this week, I also had great meals at Ciudad, La Huasteca and Napa Rose once again. In fact, we ate at Napa Rose twice and before the second meal, the chef asked if he could just cook for us, which we readily agreed to. We enjoyed a wonderful seven course meal paired with wines for the price of the usually four courses. (Actually, he gave Skip and I different courses, which we shared, bring the course count up to about twelve!) I love that restaurant! We also got in a Galaxy game that was fun and exciting. It's always great to watch David Beckham play soccer. Plus we got a preview ride of the new attraction at the Disneyland Resort. It was really great.

Unfortunately, due to all the celebrating and spending too much time on the breakup of a long-time friendship that also happened this week (although it's been happening for several years now), I haven't had the time or energy to really write anything up this week.

I was thinking of making it four weeks in a row by talking about the foolish clerk in Kern County who has decided not to do any marriages rather than have to marry same sex couples. The Religious Right are trying to say that she is acting courageously, but if she was truly courageous, she would stick to her guns instead of finding a way of punishing everyone, including innocent heterosexuals, in order to save her job. She is no hero. She's just another loud-mouthed, hateful coward. She should be removed from office immediately, as she would be if she refused to marry mixed-race couples.

I was also thinking about writing about this breakup of friendship and what it means to me. But I'm still too close to it, so that topic will have to wait until I feel I can look at it without prejudice. It wouldn't do anyone any good if I wrote something full of unchecked sadness and anger.

Sorry, but I'm also so far behind on business I need to get done that I'm in a mini-mass panic. So I'm just going to leave you with some reviews of things I did this last week.

I'll see you next week with what I hope will be a new Thin White Rope road story.

Until then, take care and have fun.
